Simon Barriga, Ph.D.
Chief Research Scientist
Dr. Simon Barriga got his B.S. in Electronics Engineering from the Catholic University of Peru, and his M.S. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of New Mexico in 2004 and 2006, respectively. His dissertation topic was on the detection of small functional signals in retinal imaging experiments, using Independent Component Analysis (ICA).While working on his doctorate, he worked in the medical image analysis field at Kestrel Corporation and ORION International Technologies, both in Albuquerque, NM. His projects included functional imaging of the retina, analysis of adaptive optics images, image quality for retinal images, and modeling and simulation of retinal surgeries.
Along with his position at VisionQuest Biomedical, Dr. Barriga is a Research Assistant Professor at the University of New Mexico’s Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. As part of VisionQuest, his research includes Diabetic Retinopathy screening methods, image quality methods for retinal images, functional imaging of the retina, analysis of chest radiographs, and statistical analysis of functional magnetic resonance imaging (f-MRI).
