John Emery
Vice President of Finance
As a private investment banker, Mr. Emery has been the responsible party in the sale of over 200 companies in a number of industries to include broadcasting, motor carrier, hospitality, government contracting, health care, manufacturing, retail and wholesale industries. Before entrepreneurship was in vogue, Mr. Emery launched his first formal venture within two years of graduating from the Harvard Business School. This business was started with $5,000; within five years Coke-a-Cola offered to acquire the business for greater than seven times after tax dollars or two times book value. Mr. Emery has conducted business in Europe, South America and the Middle East, and has traveled to over 80 countries. At VisionQuest Biomedical, Mr. Emery is currently establishing a network of customers for VisionQuest Biomedical's EyeStar(TM) Automated Diabetic Retinopathy Screening System, as well as seeking interested investors for the company.
He advised a fast growth company go public, served as the M&A consultant and served on the Board of Directors (Chairman of both the Audit Committee and Compensation Committee). The company raised $5,000,000 at $5 per share for 25% of the company; five years later the shares sold at $30 per share and had a market cap of $750,000,000. Hicks, Muse, Tate & Furst was a late entry investor in the firm
Mr. Emery carried a full teaching load at Anderson School of Business and the Latin American Institute at the University of New Mexico for ten years. He was responsible for launching the teaching of entrepreneurship in the MBA program. In addition, he served as an elected member of the Albuquerque Public School where he served as the Chairman of the Finance Committee (over $1,000,000,000. budget) and was recognized as an “Eli Broad Fellow” for his efforts.
